Empathy is Free

Summer 2018 I took two courses, one in needlework and fabrication and another in neon bending. I also participated in a workshop with Martina Flor in hand lettering. Utilizing the word ‘empathy’ within multiple materiality contexts was my summer experiment in discourse creation. Beginning with hand-drawn lettering, I created a digital version to then produce a pattern for embroidery. Subsequently, I was able to use that pattern for my final neon bending project that was only a minor success due to my skill level in glass bending. However, it was essential for me to continue this exploration into how materials affect the implication of language.
